These linear logic models are mostly used to systematically analyse technical and sociotechnical systems such as chemical plants and mass transport systems. An examination of literature shows that these linear logic models and the accident triangle models of accident causation are universally adopted by organisations that espouse the mantra that ‘all accidents are preventable’.

A derivation of linear logic is the so-called ‘root-cause analysis’. This assumes that the cause of any accident can be traced back to an easily identifiable small number of generic problems; fix the problem and re-occurrence is prevented.
